Benefits of a Mini Facelift
The goal of a facelift is generally to turn back the clock and restore youthful appearance to the face. Also called a rhytidectomy, this procedure accomplishes this goal by removing excess, sagging skin, smoothening deep folds and creases, and lifting and tightening deep facial tissues. The Mac Couture Lift is one of our most popular surgical facelift options.
However, some patients looking for a less invasive alternative may consider the Mini Facelift instead. For patients requesting less dramatic changes and preferring minimal downtime compared to a typical facelift procedure, F.A.C.E. of Beverly Hills offers this alternative. Dr. McCoy Moretz, a facial plastic and cosmetic surgeon, offers mini facelift procedures in Beverly Hills. To learn more about the mini facelift, read on!
What Is a Mini Facelift?
A conventional facelift can be quite invasive, involving the removing of fat and tightening of various muscles in the face. A mini facelift primarily approaches a specific area of the face through shorter incisions. These incisions are typically made along the hairline above each ear or in the naturally occurring creases surrounding each ear. The procedure then involves repositioning sagging facial structures and attaching them to the cheekbones.
The primary purpose of a mini facelift is to address mild to moderate skin laxity (looseness) and other typical signs of aging in the lower areas of the face. More dramatic changes may require a conventional facelift and/or neck lift.
Pros and Cons
For mild to moderate improvement to the appearance of the face, especially the lower face, a mini facelift is a great option. Compared to conventional facelifts which may require 4-5 weeks of recovery, a mini facelift only requires 3-5 days. Many patients and doctors refer to mini facelifts as “weekend lifts” due to the minimal downtime required following the procedure.
Facial nerves are not exposed to surgery during the procedure, making it a safer choice compared to conventional facelift procedures. The longer the incision, the more risk of complications. Additionally, a longer incision leads to a longer recovery period. The side effects of a mini facelift are similar to a conventional facelift, including possible bleeding and bruising. However, the side effects tend to be mild due to the less invasive nature of the procedure. Dr. Mac will review any concerns you have during consultation.
Mini facelifts are only recommended in cases where the underlying facial tissue has not experienced a significant loss in firmness, such as with age. Mini facelifts are not preferred in situations where a dramatic transformation is needed.
With proper care, the results from a mini facelift can last just as long as a conventional facelift, or several years. To learn more about your eligibility and to find out if a mini facelift is right for you, contact Dr. Mac today!
