Beverly Hills PDO Thread Lift
The thread lifts of today are much different from the thread lifts you might get in a cosmetic surgery center years ago. Today’s thread lifts are considered nonsurgical, minimally invasive and capable of delivering incredible results without the same risk of complications, as we explained in, “What Is a PDO Thread Lift?”
A PDO Thread Lift is a treatment which lifts and tightens sagging skin tissue using threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO). PDO thread lifts are useful for skin tightening, cellular renewal and instant skin lifting.
Here at Face of Beverly Hills, we recently completed a PDO thread lift on our lovely patient Valerie. Valerie was looking for a nonsurgical approach to a conventional neck lift and was treated in our office by facial plastic and cosmetic surgeon Dr. McCoy Moretz. In this article, we share the specifics of how the PDO thread lift was utilized in her treatment and the results of her cosmetic procedure in our Beverly Hills office.
There are many potential applications for PDO thread lifts. In Valerie’s case, she was looking to treat loose skin and thick banding of the platysma muscle in the area from the bottom of her chin to the base of her neck. While this condition may appear later in life for some, it is simply a hereditary condition for others whom have lived with it their whole lives. At Face of Beverly Hills, many of our patients treated for this condition are in their 20s or early 30s.
While a PDO thread lift is an adequate treatment option for treating sagging skin in this area, it is not the only treatment option. In more extreme cases or for longer lasting results, a surgical neck lift may also be recommended. One common surgical procedure used to treat this condition is a submental lipectomy, or a modified necklift with Platysma Plication. However, a PDO thread lift is the most effective nonsurgical option available in our office.
The process takes about an hour in office, with results lasting as long as 3 years with proper care. Lidocaine with adrenaline (to increase duration of effects) is used as a numbing agent to prevent pain and discomfort during the process. A thin needle is used to insert the PDO threads which are used to lift the skin. The threads themselves, after the ends are cut, dissolve in the skin within 3-4 months. During this time, they keep the skin lifted and help train it to be tighter.
You can watch the whole process in this video below.
While a PDO thread lift is nonsurgical and the results don’t last forever, with proper care they can last quite a while. Some patients will need to book a follow up procedure 6 months later. Others may not need to book another procedure for a few years. Patients with extreme cases or those seeking longer lasting results may prefer a surgical option such as a submental lipectomy.
