Cellfina Cellulite Treatment
It is estimated that 85% of women over the age of 20 have at least some cellulite. Cellulite is persistent subcutaneous fat causing dimpling of the skin, especially on women’s hips and thighs.
In 2015, the FDA cleared Cellfina for use in the treatment of Cellulite. Since then, clinical studies performed by Cellfina have shown a high level of patient satisfaction with this procedure.
What is Cellfina?
Cellfina is a highly sought-after approach to cellulite treatment. A minimally invasive nonsurgical procedure, Cellfina is useful in the treatment of cellulite found in the thighs and buttocks.
Cellfina works through a process called subcision. Subcision is a minor surgical procedure typically used for treating depressed cutaneous scars and wrinkles. When subcision is performed during Cellfina, a device the size of a needle is inserted underneath the skin to treat the connective bands.
Prior to performing your procedure, Dr. Moretz will ask you to stand so that he can use a marker to highlight the areas where the cellulite dimples exist. A numbing solution will be administered before the Cellfina handheld device is utilized to insert a microblade beneath the surface of the skin. Dr. Mac will move the tool in a fanning motion to release the fibrous bands underneath the skin, resulting in the cellulite dimples bouncing back and smoothening the skin.
Cellfina Compared to Cellulaze
Cellfina is a newer procedure than Cellulaze, which instead uses a laser device and heat energy to cut the connective bands.
Compared to Cellulaze, Cellfina comes at a lower cost with fewer risks and complications. Furthermore, Cellfina’s results appear to last longer.
During the actual procedure, discomfort is typically minimal to nonexistent. Most patients simply report the feeling of suction during the procedure on the treatment areas.
Following the procedure, minor side effects in the treatment area can include tenderness, bruising, minor pain or discomfort, and some soreness. The side effects typically disappear after a few days on their own. Clinical trials have shown no serious adverse reactions following the procedure.
Because Cellfina is a nonsurgical, minimally invasive procedure, downtime is typically minimal and general anesthesia is not required. Patients can usually drive themselves home and resume normal activities within 24 hours.
For two weeks post-op, it is recommended you wear compressive garments such as bike shorts or yoga pants. Exercise should be limited for 3-4 days following the procedure. You should also avoid swimming and sun exposure for about a week.
The best candidates for Cellfina are between the ages of 20 and 60, maintain a stable weight and have minimal skin looseness (laxity).
