Dr. Mac Leads Fight Against Coronavirus
Dr. McCoy Moretz is known in the Beverly Hills area as a board-certified surgeon, patient care master, celebrity doctor and 31+ year medical expert in the field of facial plastic and cosmetic surgery. What you might not know is that Dr. Mac is also internationally renowned for his work in medical tourism, including working with regenerative medicine in China. He is also working with doctors across the United States in the battle against COVID-19.
As our economic climate shifts across the globe due to the coronavirus pandemic, Dr. Moretz is working with a team of medical experts to conduct clinical trials on the effects of an herbal chewing gum in helping to prevent the spread of the virus. If you’ve been following Dr. Mac on Instagram, you’ll have already begun seeing posts regarding his recent trip in and around Savannah, Georgia working with the diverse team involved in this mission. Read on to learn more about this exciting mission to combat COVID-19!
What Is Antiviral Quinine Gum?
The herbal antiviral gum developed by Bio Extraction Sciences LLC is a combination of quinine and carbon in a time-released gum matrix. Quinine is a bitter compound that comes from cinchona tree bark. Quinine is known for its antiviral properties. While it can be used in medications that treat conditions as severe as malaria, many individuals familiar with quinine may consume it in tonic water for treatment of conditions such as nighttime leg cramps.
The purpose of chewing the gum, such as during the course of essential activities where you may come in contact with coronavirus, is to create a constant antiviral presence that may kill the virus before it is contracted. If you are already infected, the gum may also help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, this herbal antiviral quinine gum shows much promise in helping to prevent the spread of coronavirus and other viral conditions.
Gum was chosen as the delivery method due to previous research suggesting a powder or liquid delivery method was less effective. Because gum can be chewed for hours, the potential preventative impact is substantially greater.
While the gum will not be promoted as an “alternative” to conventional COVID-19 treatment and prevention following clinical trials, it may be used in combination with doctor-recommended treatments and practices like social distancing for maximum effectiveness.
About the Team
Bio Extraction Sciences LLC was founded in late March 2020 by co-founders Preston Haliburton and McCoy Moretz, MD. Their belief in the effectiveness of the gum and the success of the planned clinical trials is based in part on a 2016 study by the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) involving over-the-counter nicotine gum. The antiviral gum was able to remove up to 82.3% of nicotine from the oral cavity, suggesting similar results in removing or killing viruses like coronavirus before contraction.
Other members include Medical College of Georgia’s own William Caldwell, PhD, who is serving as Director of Clinical Research. Additional members contributing medical research include doctor and Georgia State Senator Lester Jackson, DDS and Dr. Scott Malone. Georgia State Senator Dr. Lester Jackson DDS is also a survivor of the COVID-19 virus from becoming infected in March 2020. We value his unique perspective from having also been a patient besides a healthcare provider.
Co-founders Haliburton and Moretz plan to begin clinical trials within weeks at Medical College of Georgia over a period of 60-90 days.
Dr. Moretz and the team at F.A.C.E. of Beverly Hills look forward to the results of the coming medical trials and making an impact in the treatment and prevention of COVID-19!
