The Benefits of PRP
An increasingly popular regenerative medicine used in cosmetic surgery today is platelet-rich plasma, also known as autologous conditioned plasma. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from whole blood, centrifuged to remove red blood cells. PRP is typically made with a patient’s own blood and used to accelerate the healing process from other procedures or used on its own for rejuvenation.
At Face of Beverly Hills, Dr. McCoy Moretz is here to ensure your platelet-rich plasma treatment is comfortable and as effective as possible towards whatever cosmetic goal you might have. Dr. Mac uses PRP frequently for a variety of treatments and, as a regenerative medicine expert, welcomes you to learn more about the benefits of PRP and its applications.
How It Works
Platelet-rich plasma is strong in growth factors. These growth factors are what make it ideal as a regenerative medicine for everything from facial rejuvenation to treating the hair and other parts of the body.
Platelet-rich plasma can be combined with procedures such as Dr. Mac’s Cocktail Chemical Peel, where the PRP is used to accelerate the healing needed from the chemical peel process. PRP may also be used for other procedures to improve the recovery process. PRP may also be combined with other regenerative medicines such as stem cells.
In other cases, PRP can be used standalone for procedures such as Dracula Therapy. In the case of Dracula Therapy, the PRP is applied to the face in order to stimulate collagen and elastin production, as well as stem cell migration to the skin. With Dracula Hair Therapy, the PRP is applied directly to the hair.
PRP is made using your own blood, meaning it is considered a natural solution in regenerative medicine. The application is also considered safe, with low risk of contamination and no chance of being rejected by the body. As such, the side effects from the actual application of the PRP are virtually non-existent.
The blood draw itself may sometimes result in mild side effects, including dizziness, mild nausea and, in rare cases, passing out. These side effects are more common for individuals that are sensitive to procedures that involve having their blood drawn. Unless you have a condition that makes you unable to have blood drawn for the procedure, or unusually sensitive to the process, you should be a good candidate for the procedure.
If you have health concerns, you should consult with your primary care doctor before contacting our office. As always, Dr. Mac is happy to review your options with you and let you know for sure if you are a good candidate for procedures that utilize platelet-rich plasma.
