What is a PDO Thread Lift?
Thread lifts in cosmetic surgery have changed radically over the years. Thread lifts once involved surgery and sometimes resulted in complications such as infections and thread breakage. However, the procedure utilized today by most clinics including Face of Beverly Hills is non-invasive, delivers incredible results and avoids the same risk of complications.
The PDO Thread Lift is a treatment which lifts and tightens sagging skin tissue. This is done using threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO). The threads pull the tissue into deeper layers within the skin. Because of the tightening effect, this produces a more youthful appearance and can eliminate wrinkles and other signs of aging.
Effects On the Skin
PDO Threads have the following effects on the skin:
- Skin Tightening – Fat tissue is contracted
- Cellular Renewal – Collagen stimulation and neovascularization takes place, improving skin texture, helping to correct fine lines and restoring elasticity
- Instant Skin Lifting – Through the mechanical effects caused by the PDO threads, the skin is lifted
PDO Thread Lifts may be a preferred method over a conventional face lift as it is less invasive while still producing strong results.
Areas of Treatment
A PDO Thread Lift may be used to treat the following areas:
- Crow’s Feet (Wrinkles Around the Eyes)
- Undereye Area
- Naso Jugal Folds
- Nasolabial Folds
- Wrinkles Around the Mouth
- Jaw Line
How Long Do Results Last?
Results will continue to show long after the threads have completely dissolved in the skin with proper care. Some patients will book a secondary procedure 6 months after the first procedure and may have results that last as long as 3 years.
Immediately following the procedure, it is normal for your skin to look a little tighter than it will actually appear a week or so following. You will begin to see final results 1-2 months following the procedure.
PDO Thread Lifts are surprisingly safe. The side effects compared to other cosmetic procedures are much milder, especially compared to using fillers. Additionally, side effects such as thread breakage and/or infection associated with older thread lifting techniques are greatly minimalized or completely averted since the threads are typically absorbed in the skin within 6-8 months.
Different Thread Types
In certain situations, different thread types may be recommended. The main difference among them is in longevity, stiffness and tensile strength. Thread types include:
- PDO (Polydioxanone) – Standard, dissolves after 6-9 months
- PLLA (Poly L Lactic Acid) – Dissolves after 12-18 months
- PCL (Polycaprolactone) – Dissolves after 24-36 months
Different PDO threads are used for different needs, but your doctor can explain the differences and help recommend a thread type that will work specifically for your needs.
